Locals know that Halloween in the city means an all-out celebration, a fun-filled week of parades, elaborately decked out stoops and ghostly tales.

For this week’s #MustDo in NYC, a round-up of the best places to show off your costume and an event to ring in November.

The Classic NYC Halloween

The Village Halloween Parade is one of NYC’s most anticipated event of the year. We love a good party and the opportunity to dress up makes it all the better! This year’s theme is ‘LOVE not fear.’ There will also be a special robot themed section (because, why not?) so if you plan on dressing up as a robot this year, sign up to join the grand marshall in the parade.

A Different Kind of Halloween

The Brooklyn Historical Society is hosting their ‘Boos in the Borough,’ an event to highlight the history of Brooklyn’s ghosts featuring the founder of Boroughs of the Dead, Andrea Janes and an exploration of funerary traditions with funeral director, Amy Cunningham to celebrate all things macabre. There will be a costume contest, so come dressed up!

It’s Not Halloween Without a Hocus Pocus Screening

Nobody knows exactly how this Disney movie became a classic (perhaps it’s just because Bette Midler is in the cast) but Halloween would not be complete without it. Join the folks at SVA theater for a free screening on Halloween night. P.S. Get an early start with a Hocus Pocus trivia night.
