#MustDo in NYC: Bring Your Canine Best Friend (Oct. 22-28)

It’s no secret at New Yorkers love their dogs. Walk through any neighborhood and you’ll likely run into canines of all shapes and sizes, stroll through any city park and you’ll find dog-runs – this city may not be made for our four-legged friends but that doesn’t keep dog-lovers at bay. Having a dog in NYC is a lifestyle choice and with it comes year-round activities to celebrate the love.

For this week’s #MustDo in NYC, a round-up of events for you and your canine best friend:

NYC Social Club Happy Hour and PUP Crawl

Join NYC Urban Adventures for our monthly NYC Social Club Happy Hour series and PUP Crawl. We’ve teamed up with local dog businesses and dog-friendly bars for a pub crawl to raise money for the local rescue organization, Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. For the happy hour monthly series, we’re teaming up with Fe from Behind the Scenes NYC and posting up at Fifth Hammer Brewing Co in LIC for some craft brews with our canine best friends. No dog? No problem! There will plenty there for you to cuddle with.

Wednesday, October 24th 6:00pm – 9pm

10-28 46th Avenue,

Long Island City, NY 11101

Let Your Furry Friend be Your Muse

Spend your evening painting your canine best friend for the ultimate addition to your apartment wall. No artistic background required! The lovely host and professional pet portrait artist, Michele Cahill, will sketch your furry friend while you complete the masterpiece with watercolors.

Friday, October 26th from 6:30pm – 9pm

Boris & Horton

195 Avenue A

New York, NY 10009

The Great PUPkin Dog Costume Contest

Now in its 20th year, the Great PUPkin costume contest is Brooklyn’s most outrageous dog costume contest held at Fort Greene Park. Registrations may close months in advance but spectators get just as dressed up as the contestants making it the best event for people (and dog) watching. The dogs are friendly but the competition is fierce for the Great PUPkin rosettes – check out their photo gallery for a taste of what’s in store from last year’s competition.

Saturday, October 27th from 11:30am to 1pm

The NYC Halloween Parade You Can’t Miss

The beloved Tompkins Square Dog Parade put a lot of people through an emotional roller coaster this year when organizers canceled the event because they couldn’t afford the park insurance costs. Cue a lot of drama, a GoFundMe page and finally, a venue change to make it happen! This year’s event will be held at the East River Park in Lower East Side and judging from last year’s attendance (500 dogs and 20,000+ people), it’s going to be a good time.

Sunday, October 28th from 12pm – 3pm
