Get in touch with the tasty culture of NYC on this New York food tour that is a pleasure for both the body and the mind! This New York City tour starts off at a location where many new citizens are made official, City Hall. Here at the northern edge of the colonial city, we start our journey with a delicious Dutch breakfast treat, just one of many foods that has made its way over thanks to the immigrant population in NYC.
On this historical tour of New York, we make our way in a loop around the NYC LES, visiting 100-year old bakeries, churches, markets, and historic sites. We stroll the streets of Little Italy just as Lucky Luciano might have a century ago. Marvel at former and still operating synagogues and Jewish clothing stores. We dive into the culture remembered at places such as the Lower East Side Tenement Museum and the African Burial Ground, and the crowded and teaming streets of Chinatown, where you feel like you’re in Shanghai!
Along the way on our New York City food tour, we sink our teeth into amazing stories and amazing food. Knishes, prosciutto, dumplings, and more. We taste why New York City is the center of the world and the culinary legacy left here by those that have passed by Lady Liberty on their way to fulfill the American Dream.

Easily one of the best guided tours we’ve ever been on. No touristy bull, even though we toured some of the most touristy neighborhoods of the city. Loved the historicity and the focus on locally run restaurants.

Hello, my girlfriends and I recently went on the NYC Tenements, Tales and Tastes tour and we had an excellent time. Our tour guide, Joe, was fantastic, very knowledgeable and a lot of fun. The places we toured were all wonderful and all of the food we sampled was outstanding – from the Dutch cookie (which I saved for later!), to the Chinese dumplings, prosciutto and mozzarella, knishes, and the German pretzles (and beer). And the stop at Economy Candy was pretty great too. Thanks again to Joe for a wonderful time, this was a very fun and interesting tour, I would highly recommend it.
Ms. Melanie P. from Australia traveled on 06 Jul 2015:
On a recent visit to New York, I booked two tours with Urban Adventures. The first, “Tenements, Tales, and Tastes”, was with David on the morning of the first day in NYC. It was a really special introduction to the city that I was about to spend four days exploring. We toured the neighbourhoods where NYC started, sampling delicious food along the way. It was fun, informative, all the things the best tours should be. Highly recommended. The second, the “Craft Cocktail” tour in the East Village was with Joshua, and on my final night in town. I was joined on the tour by two New York locals, so I guess that goes to show how valuable the knowledge of the guide can be! We visited three bars, enjoyed cocktails and delicious snacks and heard fascinating stories about prohibition and NYC bar culture. Also a great tour. Many thanks to both Dave and Josh for their friendly and professional service, and for sharing their enthusiasm for their city.
Ms. Rosy F. from New Zealand traveled on 17 Aug 2014:
These tours are personal, intelligent and show me things, sights, people and places I would never have seen or experienced otherwise. As a seasoned traveller, discovering Urban Adventures has been a delight.
Ms. Sandra M. from USA traveled on 06 Aug 2014:
We really enjoyed having Natalie as our tour guide. Her knowledge of the immigrant history was very interesting and thorough. She matched the pace of the tour to our needs and was very receptive to questions. We very much appreciate that Urban Adventures strives to include local food, families and vendors in its tours.
Ms. Ruth F. from United Kingdom traveled on 04 Aug 2014:
Fab tour and is highly recommended. I learnt so much and appreciated the guide’s knowledge despite sore feet and full tummy by the time we finished!
Mr. Mark V. from Netherland traveled on 10 May 2014:
Nathalie is an excellent guide, she knows so much about the history of New York and is able to tell it in a very enthusiastic way. In your mind you can almost see it like a movie. She takes her time, no rush and is very sympathetic. Even if you know NYC, this tour is very interesting and learns you a lot about history and why it is the way it is nowadays. Thank you Nathalie! Regards, Mark, Ageeth, Thijs and Dirk
Ms. Melonie S. from United Kingdom traveled on 21 Apr 2014:
Our guide David was patient and very informative. He really knew what he was talking about. I loved experiencing the different foods; I never would have visited these places if it hadn’t been part of the tour.
Ms. Nicola F. from United Kingdom traveled on 05 Apr 2014:
Nathalie was an excellent guide, really enthusiastic and very knowledgable. This tour is a great way to see a different side to New York.
Ms. Gerrie H. from USA traveled on 12 Nov 2013:
As New Yorkers, we were thrilled with our guide David’s knowledge of some nooks and crannies we would not have explored on our own. The tastes were quite a find and we plan to find them again soon. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for other interesting Urban Adventures.
Mr. Joan P. from Canada traveled on 07 Oct 2013:
I have already told everyone we talked to that this is a must for their next trip to NYC. David was fantastic. Our only regret was that we didn’t do the tour earlier during our visit so we could go back and explore more in the Lower East side. David was a fantastic guide and having a small group made it so personable.
Mrs. Sandra R. from USA travelled on 05 Oct 2013:
I ended up having Karen as my private guide.. lucky me! She’s fabulous! Really friendly and knowledgeable.
Mrs. Silke H. from Germany traveled on 30 Sep 2013:

Mr. James D. from USA traveled on 13 Nov 2011:
I can’t imagine anyone being more knowledgeable, informed, engaging and personable than Jared, particularly about the neighborhood he knows personally from his own family history. Our Urban Adventure tour exceeded whatever expectations we might have had and we enjoyed the experience very much.
